This site has moved!

We have moved this Do Good and Be Seen to DoGoodandBeSeen.com. It was our intention to have that page set up for us before we started 4 days ago, but thanks to a steeper than expected learning curve for setting it up, some unexpected diversions and some basic holiday plans, it took us a couple of days to get everything working.

Starting tomorrow (January 5th), we will only be posting to the new site.

So head over to DoGoodandBeSeen.com  to get all your great daily vegan Do Good tips. We’ll see you over there.

Today’s Tip: Start a MeetUp Group

Start a MeetUp Group

If you live in a large city, consider starting a Meetup group for your particular areas of interest or community within veganism. Cinephiles, parents, LGBTQ people, athletes, entrepreneurs, and artists are all examples of communities that can be fostered among fellow vegans. If you live in a less populated area, consider just starting a vegan Meetup or one for those who are trying to transition. Potlucks, dine-outs, book clubs and discussion groups are all great opportunities for expanding your vegan community. Start with just one other person and you are on your way!
If you follow our daily Do Good and Be Seen in 2015 tips, each tip will be delivered right to your mailbox. How cool is that? Just click on the Follow button in the lower right corner of this page.

Today’s Tip: Exchange Skills.

Organize a skill-share exchange. Teach your non-vegan friends (or new ones) how to stock a vegan pantry, how to bake without eggs, how to make natural housecleaning products, and more in a relaxed, fun way. Better yet, figure out different useful skills you can teach one another.

Vegan Street has lots of shareable information in the Recipes, HomeEco and Vegan Living sections of our website.

Today’s tip: Lead a tour.

Lead a tour.

Lead a tour.

Offer unofficial tours of your local grocery stores for those who are looking for vegan groceries, offering them ideas on what to look for in terms of ingredients, what packaging icons to look for, what “cruelty-free” means on personal care products and so on. This can be a daunting step for a lot of people and some just need a little extra hands-on help.

Today’s tip: Become a mentor.

At least once a month, make a standing offer through your social media channels that you are available to support and mentor anyone who is trying to move in the direction of veganism. Offer to help with recipes, shopping tips, technology ideas (such as apps that are helpful) and other resources that can make the transition much easier.

Starting tomorrow: Get new daily inspiration and action items from Vegan Street

Do Good and Be Seen

Are you ready to make a difference?

At Vegan Street, we are dedicated to providing inspiration, tools and support to help build, engage and promote the vegan community, and help each member of this community feel more empowered and connected. Each week, we post new original essays, recipes, interviews, book and product reviews, eco-friendly home and personal care tips and compact, info-laden memes that all combine to make the vegan experience easier, richer and more fun.

Beginning tomorrow, we’ll be taking this all a bit farther with the launch of Do Good and Be Seen, a new program designed to connect you to issues you care about and help you make positive change on these same issues.

Each day, on this page we’ll present a new action item — something that will interest and engage you about an issue connected with animal protection, environmental stewardship, social justice, public health or good citizenship. It will be something that you can absorb in just a few seconds and often accomplish with little effort. Each of these will be saved and archived, so you can go through them all at your convenience.

But we expect this page to become more than that, and this is where you come in. After each post, there will be an opportunity to comment, ask questions, leave information and join or start a conversation. Our hope is that we’ll get enough people engaged that this site will take on a life of its own, and even become a conversation hub where ideas are born, supportive relationships are created and important things happen.

So stay tuned tomorrow, New Year’s Day, for our first action item, and we will all see where it goes from there.

We wish you a happy and safe entry into the New Year.
